Finca el Portezuelo

A stunning African coffee from close to the Kilimanjaro Mountain region in Tanzania. You can expect the full, fruity body of a coffee from this region, with notes of Apple and Orange Peel, but with a delicate finish of Dark Chocolate and a hint of Butterscotch. A coffee lover’s delight, particularly as an espresso or long black; but also with a flat white bringing out the citrus notes quite pleasantly. Tanzania and Uganda are really coming to the fore in the production of super coffees, latterly.

Majinja

The Salford Roasters team are quite confident in saying that this is the most interesting coffee they’ve tasted in a long time. From a technical stand-point too, it is close to being the perfect coffee. We’ve roasted this new 2020 harvest light to medium, allowing the full East-Central Africa flavour profile to be elicited. Uganda is no longer the ‘poorer coffee neighbour’ of Keyna. Think about your favourite box of luxury chocolates and that magical ‘Strawberry Cream’ … a strong bodied coffee with a syrupy, light acidic finish.

Working with James from Omwani Coffee Co., we are able to bring you this exciting brand new harvest Microlot coffee from the Kalingwe region in Uganda. The name ‘Bukonzo Dream’ originates from the Bukonzo tribes-people of Uganda. They are friendly and welcoming people who dream of being able to provide better opportunities for each generation. The farmers have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and given the opportunity of producing a harvest which will give them a greater yield and ultimately a better return, they are willing to go extra lengths to ensure a fantastic crop.

At the start of the 2019/20 harvest, through the use of Donkeys, the coffee cherries are brought down to the main processing area at Kisinga, under the watchful eye of lead farmer, Mbusa Julius. By collecting the cherry rather than as processed green bean, the value added to their coffee is huge, and it shows! It also adds incentive to the farmers when picking and selecting ripe coffees as they can achieve higher prices – an important part of the Salford Roasters story.

The taste notes are incredible, with strawberry coming to the fore, and a hit of passion fruit and peach, before the pleasant syrupy aftertaste. Enjoy!

Bukonzo Dream – Kalingwe

Delighted to bring this Rainforest Alliance certified coffee to Salford Roasters; it is a traceable single estate coffee from the Finca La Laja farm close to the village of Huatusco in the state of Veracruz. La Laja is owned by Hermilo Sampieri, and for three generations, the Sampieri family has produced some stunningly balanced coffees. Grown at around 1,100 masl, and utilising an average temperature from 15-22 Grad Celsius, fertile soil and it’s tropical climate, the farm continues to produce season after season. Today, the farm is certified for its sustainable production with RFA and 4C. The name “La Laja” is derived from the name of a stone common in the region of Huatusco, Veracruz.

Brand new to our selection, this Rainforest Alliance Certified (RFA) medium roasted coffee is not to be missed. If you’ve tried our decaffeinated brew from the same region, you’ll know the quality of this farm. A delightfully juicy coffee on filter for your morning brew!

La Laja

Our new exquisite Organic Guatemalan coffee roasted on a medium-dark profile for the winter months, is not one to be missed. With notes of Dark Chocolate, and that classic Guatemalan Cherry feel to the cup and a Nectarine finish, this coffee is perfect for your morning filter or afternoon espresso.

We have sourced our Organic Coffee from the Bremen farm in Northern Guatemala, and the coffee is grown at an average height of 1,100 meters, where Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, Maragoypeand Caturra varietes are abundant.

This farm is located in Purulha, Baja Verapaz, a mostly hilly area, boulders, siguanesand limestone uplands of the North of the country.

Burundi Masenga Single Origin Coffee
With its high altitudes, volcanic soil, and fantastic processing, Burundi has one of the best reputations from all of East Africa. Coffees here are complex and have that classic African acidity. We hope you like this very special small lot, available with us for a time-limited period, and sourced from the excellent Omwani Coffee Co.

Salford Roasters’ Signature Blend is a crowd favourite – this coffee combines the Nicaraguan and El Salvador offerings from the Roastery, and produces a velvety and sweet coffee, with notes of white chocolate, almond, molasses and a syrupy acidity. Try this one if you are new to speciality coffee, but want coffee perfection all the same. Can be enjoyed from morning until evening!

Signature Blend

The Rialto is a coffee we produced for Xmas in 2019, using our popular Nicaragua single origin and a Brazilian bean from the Santos region. It was so popular that we were asked to keep it as our regular ‘Italian roast’. Enjoy its milk chocolate and burnt caramel tasting notes with an acidic finish, making this a fantastically balanced cup. Perfect for that first coffee of the morning!

The Rialto Blend

With the Chanchamayo (Peru) beans taking a seasonal break in Autumn/Winter 2020, we have been busy playing about with new roast profiles for The Salfordian Blend. The new Mexican La Laja coffee (RFA certification) has gone down a treat, eliciting particularly juicy notes on filter. Using this coffee, and going slightly darker (195/6 finishing temp for those coffee nerds!) has given it a fuller body and brought to the fore those caramel notes – even cocoa nib and vanilla undertones. Here, we have found a nice balance with this (75%) and the Brazilian Santos (25%) which is used in crowd favourite The Rialto, giving you a medium-dark roast to die for.

The Salfordian Blend

This coffee was the stunning Xmas Blend of 2020, which received great feedback from you lovely folks. For now, nameless, or the ‘Winter Blend’, is a combination of our exquisite Organic Guatemalan coffee (80%) with our mainstay Brazilian Santos coffee (20%) on a medium-dark profile. With notes of Dark Chocolate, Cherry, Honey and Nectarine, this blend has to be tried, as it is quite different to the normal blends you’ll find out there.

Perfect for that afternoon flat white or a long black and a lazy weekend with the newspapers.
