Farmed by Bernard Ornilla on his 3.5ha farm in north west Honduras. Bernard founded his own farm in 2012 after a background in social ethical financing of sustainable agricultural organisations, specifically with Fair Trade and Organic coffee organisations in Latin America.

With Bernards pedigree it is no surprise that his coffee is certified both Fair Trade and Organic. He invests heavily in developing his specialty coffee, experimenting on the selection of varieties but also on the techniques in fertilizing, pruning, shadow management and harvesting. With the coffee collected he conducts different processes: washed, honey, natural and anaerobic fermentation. Experimentation that we think you will agree is well worth all of his effort.

Lars & Margo Coffee Roasters

A superb naturally processed crop from a prestigious farm approaching its centenary in coffee bean production. In 1933, Aneite Reis inherited 5 hectares of crops to start coffee production at the Rancho Grande Farm. Today, the farm is run by his son José Car-los Reis and grandson Flávio (Fafa) Reis.

Never slow to innovate in his quest for the perfect coffee, Flávio uses the static box drying method on his crop of Acaia where the beans are placed in 1m deep boxes with a grill below through which hot and cold air is circulated. Practicing this aids the fermentation process, so after 7-10 days the beans are left to dry naturally for up to two further weeks. 'Static boxes’ referring to the coffee being not stirred but rested, thus greatly enhancing the flavour development of this coffee.

The mission of the farm is to responsibly produce coffee of the highest possible quality without neglecting the importance of protecting the environment and the caring for the well-being of its employees. For diversification, coffee runs beside dairy and meat production. Several employees live on the farm in houses provided with subsidised electricity and food.

A Cooperative, founded in 1967, of 2,300 coffee growers, in the south west region of Caldas, west-central Colombia.  Average farm size of 2.4 hectares with 30% of their members being women. All their profits are invested in the coffee growers welfare.

Through our partnership with coffee farmer Lorenzo Garcia we bring you beans from the Vista Hermosa Farm in the Jaen/San Ignacio highlands, Cajamarca, Northern Peru; one of Peru’s premier coffee producing regions.

Cultivated between 1850m and 2000m above sea level, Lorenzo has pioneered the use of solar drying technology on raised beds in order to create a slow even drying of the bean, preserving the complex flavours.

If you like rich fruity coffees you will love this organic coffee from the Biftu Gudina Co-Operative. You will find rich blackberry with a slight tang of tangerine, supported by a foundation of rich dark chocolate crowned with a sparkling cranberry and kiwi acidity.  A coffee extremely mellow and easy to drink yet strong enough to hold its own at anytime of the day.

This is a washed process coffee to ensure evenness of flavour, after washing, the beans are dried in the sun, the extensive use of shade nets ensure that the beans dry slowly and evenly without getting prematurely dried out or scorched.

Biftu Gudino is a rapidly expanding co-operative founded in 2012 which now numbers 296 small farmers, almost a third of whom are women. The co-operative covers range from 1980-2100 meters above sea level in the Agaro, Jimma area of Western Ethiopia.

In addition to the vast improvements that working co-operatively has given in their coffee production, the co-operative members have also seen massive improvements to their own community’s infrastructure in the form of better roads, schools, and medical facilities.

A true all-rounder, medium roast, our blend with its flavoursome layers provided by the beans of three continents. The organic Sumatran Catimor and Typica coffee beans with their herbal, spicy and sweet tones of nutmeg and marjoram on base. Complemented with Mundo and Acaia beans from Brazil. Add the Heirloom beans from Ethiopia creating a scented balm of roasted hazelnut and sweet milk chocolate with high notes of lime, tangerine & ripe fruits.

Andre Melendez produced five sacks this year from his farm near San Pedro in Southwest Guatemala, and guess who bought the lot? Yes we did! Perhaps a gamble but one that has most definitely paid off! An incredibly smooth coffee - chocolate and nut from the start - ripe red fruits and a lingering finish.

#00G Guatemalan

This is our first melado coffee. The name derives from the process through which the seed (coffee bean) is obtained from the fruit. The coffee cherry is pulped with minimal water, aiding water conservation, then dried in raised drying beds with the natural honeys and mucilage that surround the outer layers of the bean.

This coffee is farmed and hand harvested in southwest Honduras as part of the farmers COMSA trade association which ensures the quality of the coffee production whilst also guaranteeing that they receive a fair price for their coffee. This coffee is certified Fair Trade.

#00H Honduran-Melado

We are delighted to offer you this decaffeinated coffee hailing from South America. These Peruvian beans are farmed in the mountainous north of the country, known for producing soon of the finest coffees in Peru, at high altitude creating an extremely high quality bean.

Farmed by the San Francisco Village Co-operative which consists of 50 small farmers from the village in the Huabal district of the Cajamarca region. 

The coffee is harvested by hand and sun dried on tarpaulins where it is tended by the individual farmer at his own house. This coffee is decaffeinated by the carbonated spring water process.

A decaffeinated roast consisting of a combination of caturra and catimor coffee beans lightly roasted to deliver a fruity, smooth acidity coffee.  The process of decaffeination takes place using carbonated spring water - whereby the caffeine clings to the walls of the carbon dioxide molecules. A non-chemical, natural process. 

#00P Decaffeinated Peruvian-Esperanza

We are thrilled to bring to our customers this coffee from Uganda grown by the Bukonzo tribespeople. The coffee is grown at high altitude in the Rwenzori Mountains on the border between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. It is hand harvested and sold as fresh ripe cherries direct to the community washing station at Kalingwe. 

Known as Bukonzo Dream after the farmers desire of being able to provide better opportunities for each generation.

The establishment of the community washing stations is transforming the lives of the farmers, previously the coffee cherries were processed at farm level. Through processing in a purpose built community ‘washing and drying’ centre the extremely high quality of this coffee can be preserved and the farmers can be guaranteed a fair market price.

After wash processing the coffee is dried in the sun and in poly tunnels where it is meticulously attended by the farmers themselves.

The local community level production means there is not a great deal of this coffee available, in fact only 24 sacks were produced so we count ourselves extremely fortunate in managing to obtain some.

If you are looking for a rich fruity coffee, then this one could be for you, but it is different so only if you are looking for something different! It has an amazing cup score!

#00U Ugandan

Our Sumatran is our real heavyweight winner. If you like a coffee packed full of flavour then this one is for you! With a herbal body with a great depth of flavour showcasing marjoram and nutmeg with a sweet spice finish.

A mix of Catimor & Typica beans from the Koperasi Permata Gayo Co-Operative, which is a collective of five villages, on the slopes of Mount Leuser, in the Bandar sub-district, Aceh Province, Sumatra. Altitude 1400 meters above sea level and processed by the unique to Sumatra, semi-washed process. 

This describes a process where the bean is wet processed as usual, but dry-milled whilst still with a larger amount of moisture (20-25%) in the bean than you would find in other countries. This is mainly due to the high humidity levels experienced throughout the country, necessitating a quickened drying process.

#00S Sumatran - Organic

Our original Sumatran back for another season. This years harvest from the same farms as last year has lost none of the flavour that made it so popular. Like a fine wine, season to season there may be subtle changes but we think that if anything it has improved this year. If you like a coffee packed full of flavour then this one is for you! Opening with raspberry, fig and tamarind with a grapefruit tang a heavy cacao body and a sweet smokey finish.

This coffee is the Tim Tim bean varietal from the Burni Telong Co-Operative, which is a collective of 60 small farmers located on the slopes of the Burni Telong volcano, which translates as ‘Fire Mountain’, in the sub-districts of Karang Rejo, Panji Mulia & Babbusalam Redelong.

These farmers are all speciality coffee growers whose average farm size is between 0.1 - 1 Ha. The altitude ranges from 1300 - 1600 meters above sea level, their coffee is processed by the unique to Sumatra Giling Basah process. 

This describes a process where the bean is de-hulled soon after harvesting whilst still containing a high moisture content  (25-50%) much greater than you would find in other countries. This is mainly due to the high humidity levels experienced throughout the country. The Giling Basah process is what gives Sumatran coffee its unique character.

This coffee is curated by Mahdi who is passionate about the coffee from his area. He ensures that the collectors ferment the coffee correctly and dry it to a moisture content of 35% when it is de-hulled before a second drying to 15%. The coffee is then hand sorted in the local town of Takengon when the coffee is dried again to below 13% and it is prepared for export.
