Chuave district in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands is part of the New Guinea Highlands, featuring the Bismarck range and Mount Wilhelm. This region is significant for coffee cultivation, particularly the Elimbari cherries. PNG is a megadiverse country, recognized for its extensive endemic plant species and marine ecosystems.

Coffee in PNG is mainly grown by smallholders in 'gardens,' with traditional plantations accounting for under 20% of production. The process involves picking, pulping, dry fermenting, washing, and drying on tarpaulin beds. The coffee is processed at Kongo's facility, where it's selected, sorted, and exported.

The Arusha varietal, likely from Typica lineage, is found in Tanzania and PNG. Introduced to PNG in the 1950s, coffee was first recorded there in 1873 and grown in Simbu since the 1960s. Although thought to be of Bourbon heritage from Tanzania, evidence suggests it might be Typica lineage.
