“La Estrella del Ostro” means Star of the Southerly Wind in Spanish.

The bright star shines just above the mountain range where this coffee is grown. On a clear night, it points towards the top of the mountain in La Plata.

La Estrella del Ostro is a Colombian speciality coffee grown by various small-scale coffee growers located in the southern region of La Plata, Huila. These small-scale producers all share the same microclimates favourable for cultivating the highest quality coffee. There are only 500 bags produced each year.

This is a great coffee, we particularly enjoy this as Filter or French Press. However it still makes a fantastic Espresso. There are floral, apricot and red berry notes, pastry and caramel tones with an overall melon sweetness. All in a round body and balanced cup.

Kijani Hai, “Living Green” in Swahili, is cultivated on the Ilela Coffee Plateau, this is an area of 40 Square kilometres that begins roughly 50 km from the town of Mbinga. Ilela has been a coffee region for the last 40 years. This newly formed cooperative enabled a small group of farmers to pool their resources, with a focus on creating infrastructure within the local coffee farming community and offering unified, high-quality coffee.

This coffee has notes of blackberries, dark chocolate, berries & biscuit, which can cut through milk for those espresso-based milk drinks, but has enough rich complexity to be really enjoyed as a filter.

La Perla Negra, “The Black Pearl”, is the name of a collaboration of farmers in the enchanting mountains of Chiquimula and Zacapa. The expert farmers have selected specific varieties of coffees for their complementary characteristics to create a uniquely balanced cup.

The area of Chiquimula is colloquially known as La Perla de Oriente, or “The Pearl of the East”, due to its beautiful landscapes and architecture as well as the elegance of the people who live there.  The area is also the home of Guatemala’s best poets, writers, singers, and musicians.

Esquipulas is a municipality located inside this region and is known for its Black Christ, or “Cristo Negro”, a wooden image of Christ which is now housed in the Cathedral Basílica of Esquipulas. The artefact lends its name, in part, to the “Perla Negra” coffee project.

A tremendous amount of work has been put into Perla Negra and as a result of many cupping sessions, the perfect balance between the sweetness and acidity has been achieved in this outstanding coffee. It has notes of chocolate, nougat and nut with hints of gingerbread spice and a grapefruit acidity, all within a full-bodied coffee.

La Serranía is translated as “The Mountain Range”, which is where our Colombian Decaf is grown. The coffee is grown at altitude, in isolated mountains, within the central range of the Andes, extending through Pitalito, Acevedo, Palestina, Timaná, and Suaza.

This wonderful coffee is the result of more than 50 producers, committed to quality and excellence, working tirelessly to grow the highest quality coffee in some of the remotest areas of the world.

La Serrania is carefully hand-sorted and processed at each individual farm, with special attention paid to the drying process to ensure consistency, uniformity, and a clean cup profile, which you can taste in each cup of this amazing Decaf.

This particular lot is a Natural EA Decaf Coffee, processed at the Descafecol plant in Manizales. The decaffeination process at this plant uses solvents derived 100% from sugar cane, plus mountain water, to remove 99.7% of the caffeine naturally present in the beans.

The beauty of the Natural EA process is that it helps preserve the original flavours of the coffee while adding fruity notes and complexity to the cup. With notes of fruity, vanilla, berries and banana, a soft acidity and long aftertaste, it’s definitely not your regular decaf!

With only 1,570 sacks (each weighing 70 kg) produced per year, this is a rare and unique coffee which we will only stock for a short amount of time, so before it is too late, make sure you try some of this wonderful Decaf.

The Copaceyba Co-operative was founded 10 years ago by Tropic-X from a group of 12 smallholders farming in the San Luis de Shuraro district in Chanchamayo, an ideal climate for producing high-quality coffee.

Tropic-X supports the Copaceybo Co-operative to greatly increase their yield per hectare, surrounding the plantations with native flora to preserve the natural biodiversity and to act as biocontrol for pests. Support with modern agricultural technologies allows smallholders to increase their net income fourfold on the average market rate for coffee farmers in Peru. This in turn reduces the incentive for deforestation to increase crop yields, preserving the natural jungle environment in central Peru.

Copaceya produces only one container of speciality grade coffee per harvest.  It is a wonderfully bright coffee, with chocolate and fruity notes, a great body and crisp finish.
