Santos is the most traditional Brazilian coffee and has been dried inside the fruit (dry/natural processed) so that some of the sweetness of the fruit carries into the cup. Santos is a market name referring to the port through which these coffees are traditionally shipped.

We are delighted to have a new El Salvador Coffee to add to our range. As a central American, this coffee has been traditonally Fully Washed to create a clean cup with a sharp acidity. Brilliant if you are seeking a coffee to leave a lingering taste!

The Coffee

This coffee will provide a sharp Green Apple and Plum acidity that is sure to linger for a long time. The acidity is mellowed somewhat by a sticky toffee mouthfeel and sweetness, which helps to reign in some of that sharp acidity 

The Farm

This coffee has been produced by the farmers at Finca El Inginio, within the famous El Salvador coffee producing Urrutias Estate. The estate was established in 1875 and been placed in the finals of the Coffee Cup of excellence awards an impressive 7 times in its long and prolific history. 

Grown in the shady volcanic mountains of the region, this coffee comes from a Rainforest Certified area, meaning great care is taken during production to reduce the impact on the natural environment.

El Salvador El Ingenio Coffee

Coffee from Burundi, in our opinion, is fantastically versatile and is consistently some of best coffee produced within Africa.  The Burundi Kirema is fully washed and the beans are dried on raised beds which helps to improve the cleanliness of the coffee.

The Coffee 

This beautiful, complex coffee starts with a tart medley of Red & Black Berries and a Floral Maple Syrup body , which is then tamed by a smooth Milk Chocolate finish. 

We have opted for a medium roast for this coffee, to optimise this its bright berry & floral notes while ensuring the chocolatey body of the coffee remains prevalent. 

The Farm

This coffee is farmed in the Kirema region of Burundi, at 1880 M.A.S.L, the region is in an area with a reputation for excellence, Kirema has placed in Cup of Excellence previously, in 2019 gaining a place in the top ten.

The most famous coffees from Indonesia are those from the island of Sumatra, and are processed as Wet-Hulled, or giling basah, which lends them their characteristic earthy and smoky flavours.

We are proud that our latest Sumatran coffee is our second from the Cafe Femenino association, a collective of female coffee growers whose purpose is to provide greater equality and representation for women coffee farmers across the globe.

The Coffee

This classic Sumatran coffee does not hold back, it combines a robust Tobacco and Brown Sugar Cane hit with subtle Ginger spices to create a powerful brew. 

The Farm 

Finding their voices unheard at a mixed-gender cooperative, the women of the Kokowagayo cooperative separated their coffee from the men’s in 2014 and began the first women-only cooperative in Sumatra.

These women knew they would make more community-focused decisions than the men when deciding where to allocate the Fair Trade premiums.

To further drive women controlled funds to their families and communities, and to nurture space where women can share their ideas and wield exclusive decision-making power, the women of Kokowagayo started the Café Femenino Sumatra Program in 2015.

A new spring arrival, the Guatamalan Coatiltan is sure to help blow away those winter cob webs!

A good Guatemalan coffee is very easy to love. Their smooth and crisp flavour profiles are perfect for most brewing methods and work well with milk based beverages.

The Coffee

This Washed Speciality Guatemalan Coffee scores a very respectable 85 on the SCA scale. This is no surprise as it combines a perfect balance of clean, crisp Raspberry and Blackberry notes with a sweet Milk Chocolate body to create a well-balanced moreish cup of coffee.

The Farm

Atitlan is both the name of a lake and a volcano, situated in the Sololá department of Guatemala. 

Headquarters for the cooperative are in Santiago Atitlan, on the banks of the lake. Although the full range of the cooperative covers altitudes of 1350-2000masl, the majority is grown around 1700masl.

This coffee has been sourced from the FEDECOCAGUA group. This cooperative organization comprises 20,000 members and over individual 150 producers. Seventy percent of co-op members are members of indigenous groups from various regions of Guatemala.

The coffee

We love a naturally processed coffees here at York Emporium, the process produces coffees with a vast array of flavours, making for a cup of unique coffee that delights the senses.  This Nicaraguan coffee has been naturally processed and doesn't fail to delight as it provides a cup of full Bright & Fruity Cherry and Blueberry notes with smooth Chocolate finish. 

The Farm - Santa Maria

Santa Maria is one of seven estates that reach across Jinotega and Matagalpa and are owned by Victor Robelo as part of the Las Nubes group. Originally bought in the late nineties after the cessation of action by the Contras, the farms were planted with his fathers’ favourite varietals, Yellow Catuai and Caturra.

The Santa Maria farm itself produces mainly Caturra, and under the managerial eye of Jimmy Mierisch is focused on producing high quality lots with new processing methods.

The Process - Natural

The coffee is picked and processed at the farms own wet mill, before being taken as wet parchment or cherry (depending on if it is a washed or natural coffee) to the dry mill facility in Matagalpa that Las Nubes bought in 2014. It is here that the drying beds are located, stacked three or four layers high to control temperature and humidity as required for the processing method. By owning their supply chain, they can tightly control the variables and therefore ensure that any experimentation is best positioned to be replicated.

Not for the faint-hearted - this coffee packs a punch!

Coffee is produced throughout the Indonesian archipelago and Java is one of the great names in coffee history. Coffee trees were introduced to Indonesia by the Dutch in the mid-seventeenth century, although it is rumoured that Java coffee was sold in Amsterdam as early as 1712. Today Indonesia produces nearly 7 million bags of coffee a year and top-grade arabicas are still produced on Java as well as on Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Flores.

We're always on the look out for incredible coffees from the Brazil and for a long time we wanted a coffee that just delivered that unmistakable classic Brazil flavour.

After many cuppings and debates, we finally found exactly what we had been looking for in the Santo Antonio Chocolate, yep...this coffee is so chocolatey they named it just that! Full bodied with intense chocolate notes, caramel and nut, this coffee tastes just like a snickers bar.

We always like to vary our Brazils throughout the seasons but we have a feeling this one could become a permanent fixture, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

This is a satisfying blend of 50% decaffeinated beans and 50% Colombian caffeinated coffee.

It is ideal as an after dinner coffee as it offers a full-bodied and rich taste with less of a buzz.

The Coffee

Sumatra Mandheling Coffee

Introducing the Brazilian Swiss Water Decaf coffee. We'll be rotating our Swiss Water Decaf seasonally to show you how delicious coffee decaffeinated in this way can taste.

The Swiss Water process is an organic, 100% chemical-free option for decaffeination. It was discovered in the 1930s in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and is commercialised by the Swiss Water Decaffeinated Coffee Company Inc, founded in 1988.

This method does not require the addition of chemicals, instead relying on a supersaturated green coffee solution called Green Coffee Extract (GCE).

To decaffeinate coffee, fresh GCE is introduced to a batch of green coffee. As the GCE is already saturated with all the water-soluble compounds found in green coffee, minus the caffeine, the matching molecules won’t diffuse out of the coffee beans—but the caffeine will. The flavour is retained in the beans while the caffeine is removed.

Thanks to some scientific smarts and creativity, it’s possible to have decaf coffee that tastes the same – just without the caffeine!

Swiss Water Decaf

Our new Kenya Zawadi Peaberry has a perfect balance of sweet and sharp flavours, with sweet dates, delicate blackcurrant and a hint of sharp apple. 

Our new Zawadi is a blend created  using carefully selected peaberries primarily from the Kamandi and Ndia-ini coffee factories.

Ndia-ini lies 5km from Mukurwe-ini and uses water fresh from the Gikira river for processing. The proximity of the river gives the factory its name which translates to ‘river ponds’ in the Kikuyu language. Kimandi is situated in the village of the same name, close to Kabare town. The word Zawadi itself is Kiswahili, and means ‘Gift’.

A superb Brazilian decaffeinated coffee, with notes of Chocolate and Caramel with a nutty finish.

Decaffeinated coffees are getting better as they grow in popularity, and this latest decaf coffee from Brazil is the perfect example of why no decaf doesn't have to mean no fun. This coffee is full bodied, and will provide you with a fulfilling cup of coffee!

Decaf Coffee

It is safe to say that Ugandan Coffees are a treat. This Ugandan coffee will delight with high notes of red berry and quince, balanced out by a smooth vanilla and honey body and sweet, juicy clementine finish.

This coffee is so sweet and perfect for any brewing brewing method. We're loving it as our morning espresso at the moment, it is simply outstanding.

For a long time now, we have been meeting with Martin, of Agri Evolve, who works together with his son, Jonny and smallholder coffee farmers in Rwenzori near to the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda.

Jonny, based in Uganda and Martin, based right here in Yorkshire, are focusing on producing and improving great quality coffee crops to bring about sustainable development within the local community.

The Farm - Ibanda Vilage

The Ibanda village is located in the northern part of Kasese District, situated in one of the many valleys of the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. Agri Evolve established a buying centre here for the farmers of Ibanda and the surrounding communities higher up on the hillsides. Farmers typically have between 1 and 2 acres of land and coffee is their main cash crop. Our Field Officers work with the farmers in groups throughout the area. Farmers have been shown how to improve their yields by using good agricultural practices. The quality of the harvest has also been greatly improved by encouraging farmers to only pick the fully ripe cherries. This gives the best prices.
The Process - Hand-picked, floated, sun-dried

Ripe, red coffee cherries are harvested daily during the harvest season and taken to Ibanda. The cherries are weighed, assessed for quality and the farmers are paid in cash. From here trucks carry the cherries to Bugoye Coffee Station. Here the cherries are floated and graded before being sun-dried in the polytunnels to protect them from rain. Our teams turn the cherries several times each day to ensure even drying whilst allowing the cherries to mature and develop their full rich
flavours.

Uganda Ibanda

A deliciously rich blend Brazilian, Ethiopian & Sumatran coffees 

Julius Caesar's Ninth Legion built the first Roman Fort in Eboracum (York) and gives its name to this lovely blend. Embodying what we are about at York Coffee Emporium, this coffee is a medium-roasted hug in a cup.

One of our most popular blends, this superb all-rounder is sweet, smooth and flavoursome.

Made up of Brazil, Colombia and Peru coffees, this is medium-bodied and medium-roasted. Served at several of the cafes we supply, it is particularly popular with their customers.

South American

Here at York Emporium, we love coffees that have amazing stories attached to them and the Peru Cecanor Café Femenino certainly has one to tell.

Café Femenino is a co-operative set up in 2004 by female coffee producers across Peru. Originating in Cecanor, many of them abused and mistreated, their aim was to educate and empower the next generation of women working within peru's coffee trade. For what was seemingly a male dominant industry, the women of Café Femenino worked towards equality and economic power.

Today the women of Café Femenino are proud of what they have accomplished but still strive to make positive cultural changes within their communities. Their success is measurable by the product they produce and it's safe to say we absolutely love this coffee. It is super sweet, full bodied with low acidity, a great morning coffee and if you were a fan of our Peru Tunki, you're going to love this...

Peru Cecanor Cafe Femenino

“Mocha” coffee from the Yemen and Ethiopia area is fruity, with a lively acidity that many find overpowering whilst Java is full-bodied, smooth with dark Cocoa notes.

The origins of this blend are believed to have begun over 400 years ago with "Mocha" from the Yemen and Ethiopia. As many Europeans found this overpowering it was combined with Java to create a smoother experience.

Our take on this timeless Dutch classic has Colombian, Kenyan and Brazil as its main components. This Mocha Java is a superb full-bodied coffee, rich and earthy yet with a zesty acidity - a perfect timeless blend.

Mocha Java

Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is one of the most sought after coffees in the world and it comes as no surprise. It manages to tick all the boxes without any gimmicks or theatrics and delivers a wonderful cup of coffee. Optimising everything we love about Island coffees but with subtle complexities that heighten it into specialty status. Expect classic milk chocolate and caramels, with an unmistakable rich butter body, that carries with it subtle floral notes, stone fruits and orange blossom.

This particular Jamaican Blue Mountain crop comes from the Blue Baron Estate. Owned by the Minott family, who have been growing and processing coffee for over 68 years. They produce only the highest quality Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee for. decades on their 67 acres. Blue Baron’s trees are harvested up to 20 times over the harvesting period, ensuring that only the very ripest cherries are harvested, then pulped and fermented with natural spring water. 

Only coffee grown in the legally defined Blue Mountain range in Jamaica can be certified as Blue Mountain Coffee. The area is favoured by the ultimate combination of the ideal altitude, mineral-rich soil, gentle cloud cover, mountain shade and ample sunlight.

Beans are then loaded into barrels made from Aspen wood and taken to the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board who will inspect them and label them as 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain® Coffee beans ready for export to those licensed to purchase and distribute them.

This fully-washed Guatemalan is from the north highlands, home to exceptional coffees with distinct acidity and fruited flavours. Thanks to the dry, hot winds that blow into the mountains from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain, the region is protected from frost, allowing cultivation from 1350 feet above sea level.

Guatemala is one of the worlds top coffee origins and the eighth largest producer. This relatively small country boasts the most climatically diverse regions in the world.

Guatemalan Bojangles

This coffee comes with a gentle warning: described as a brute of a coffee and not for the fainthearted, it is heavy by name and heavy by nature.

Coffee was introduced to Vietnam in 1857 by the French and the country slowly grew as producer of coffee in Asia. Vietnam is now the second largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil, accounting for 14.3% of the world market share.  The North of the country has a climate of cold winters and showers particularly suited to Arabica cultivation. Large quantities of Robusta are grown in the tropical south of the country for the instant coffee and blending markets.

Heavy French

We're really excited to add this delicious Ethiopian Yirgarcheffe coffee to our collection. With notes of Lemon tea, a butter body and floral rosehip. This coffee is perfect for these warm summer mornings - refreshing, clean and bright.

The quality Coffee being produced in Colombia is continuing to amaze us here at York Emporium!

Colombia is synonymous with Coffee production and has a long history of producing very recognisable coffee. It wasn't until recently that the Country's coffee producers were able to be let loose from standardisation of Colombian coffees, resulting in some ever increasingly unique and progressive flavours.

We have worked closely with The Green Collection on supplying you with the best & freshest coffee Colombia has to offer and we are very pleased with the latest offering, The Planadas.

The Coffee

This Washed Process Coffee consists of a medley of juicy red and white fruits, singing with notes of pomegranate & pears,  balanced perfectly with a smooth caramel body. 

The Farm(s)

This exceptional coffee originates from 48 Coffee producing hamlets, located in the Volcanic Tolima region of Colombia. The collection of farms cover a vast area of some 14,200 coffee producing hectares, with individual farms ranging from 0.3 to 6 hectares in size and 1650 to 2200 m.a.s.l.

The Four Bean Coffee Blend

Named after the famous York monument, Clifford's Tower, this blend is as strong and rich as it's history.

Built in 1068 by William the Conqueror, Clifford's tower has survived invasions, wars, fires and explosions - we hope our blend lives up to the strength of it's name.

Monsoon Malabar is one of the most popular and well-known Indian single origins due to its unusual processing method and distinctive flavour. It's no surprise it's one of our best sellers.

The beans are picked, dried, then left to age in open huts against the monsoon season Indian weather. The result is a distinctive yellow coloured bean. Monsoon Malabar (Malabar, along with Mysore, is a region) is graded in size and quality, with AA grade being the highest.

Until recently Honduras coffee had not made it to the summit of the speciality coffee market due to mediocre coffee processing and transporting, little inward investment to put things right and the lack of a distinct brand in the consumer market. However, the great soil, altitude, climate in the Honduras combined with farmers increasingly better-trained in agricultural practices is resulting in some amazing coffees.
