AGPROCEM is a group of organic coffee growers famous for their cup quality and one that is typical of the Tolima department. Planadas is a 7 hour drive from Ibague, the capital of Tolima. There are around 25,000 citizens with 5,000 centred in the town. Selecto exporters have been working hard to engage with and train the group of 37 talented coffee producers. They have started to win awards for their organic coffee so watch this space!

The Federación de Cooperativas Agrícolas Guatemala (FEDECOCAGUA) is a second-level co-operative founded in 1969 to improve the position of small-scale coffee growers. It is the umbrella organisation for 20,000 coffee farmers belonging to 52 affiliated farmers’ organisations – 33 of which have Fairtrade certification and a total of 3,726 individual Fairtrade members.

Café Femenino Peru is a medium bodied coffee with a fine acidity, sweet aroma and hints of baker’s chocolate that are accentuated by a slow, medium dark roast.

This is a coffee grown high in the Andes in far north Peru. The story of Café Femenino began in 2004 when women farmers from northern Peru began talking with their cooperative leaders about their desire to separate their coffee from the men’s. These female members of CECANOR felt they put more care into their production, creating a superior product. Today, the Café Femenino Coffee Project is a social program for women coffee producers in rural communities around the world, creating greater gender equality in families, cooperatives, and communities. More than 1,500 women in Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru are active in the project to achieve empowerment, build social and support networks, and earn incomes through the production and sale of the Café Femenino Coffee. Café Femenino Coffee is imported exclusively by OPTCO and distributed by more than 80 roasters whom pay a premium above the fair trade price.
