Fruit, nut and chocolate, it has to be the nations favourite. By bringing together 'Natural' and 'Washed' hand processed coffees post roasting it is possible to achieve a coffee profile they couldn't on their own. We sway this coffee more towards espresso but our medium roasting style means it is also at home with filter coffee brewing. The natural elements bring the fruit forward and the washed brings complexity. They perform perfectly together back to back.

Technically this is a single origin blend as it brings together two different coffees from the same cooperative.

'El Rio Tambo' is a small section of river, running through a valley on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Central Peru. Bordering this river, at elevations of between 1500-1800m above sea level, a cooperative called 'Valle Santa Cruz' - 136 coffee producers including 31 women - grow organic coffee on small farms averaging 3 hectares.

Producers in the cooperative grow organic coffee without any artificial chemical inputs. The farm is fed with natural, organic fertilisers such as 'Guano' and volcanic rock minerals. The farms are sheltered by native trees which are home to a wide variety of tropical birds, and the coffee is grown amongst other fruit trees such as guaba, mandarin and pineapple.

The cooperative work together to ensure that between the many rural producers, they have direct access to the export markets and are able to demand a fair and sustainable fee for their coffee. This in turn helps with inward investment in processing, education and infrastructure, so that coffee production can continue to be a viable and of a high standard.

We’ve created our coffee to perfectly complement the Barista & Co product range. Introducing the Arabica course ground Colombian, Brazilian and Costa Rican coffee for French presses, ideal for the home brewer. It is the perfect daytime coffee with a strong, sharp flavour deliciously blended with subtle caramel and toffee flavours.

The coffee packaging is resealable which prevents the coffee from contacting with the air, keeping your coffee smelling and tasting as fresh as the day it arrived!

This Central American coffee is coarse ground, which means that it can be used with all our coffee makers.

This is our perfect all rounder and often the everyday choice for our customers due to its' versatility. Roasted on the slightly darker side of medium it can work very well for manual espresso, bean to cup machines as well as manual brewers with a coarser grind. This blend brings together the complementary characteristics from Guatemala and Colombia. We drop in our Colombian from Valle del Cesar with coffee from the Huehuetenango region in Guatemala which brings dark chocolate to the party.
 
Guatemala San Antonio De Huista
 
This coffee is produced by an association in the town of San Antonio de Huista in the famous region of Huehuetenango in northern Guatemala. The region is characterised by very high elevation farms (average 1800m), with a temperate climate warmed by winds brought down from Mexico. The farms that produce these coffees practise organic agriculture, and cultivate traditional 'old' varieties of arabica such as Typica, Caturra and Bourbon. The coffees are selectively hand-picked during the harvest, fully washed and wet fermented for 12 hours, and then dried on patios for 8-10 days.
 
Colombia Valle del Cesar
 
This coffee comes from an association called Café Entre Sierras, which was formed in 2018, and comprises 17 farms in the Perija mountains, northern Colombia. The mountains form part of the "Cordillera de los Andes", which is the largest continuous mountain range in the world.
 
Between them, the association manages 385 hectares of land, producing organic coffee under native forest shade, and in doing so, protects one of the most ancient areas of forest in Latin America. 
 
For a period of time, farms in this area were abandoned, as the population fled armed conflicts in the region. The associates therefore manage their land and projects in pursuit of a simpler, calmer life. The Café Entre Sierras association provides support to new producers wishing to join the adventure, and aims to inspire the younger generation back into farming. They have recently created a school of 'Cafe Catadorcitos', to teach younger barista and coffee tasting skills. We are pleased to say that we will be supplying these young baristas with the tools to perfect their trade.

In The Mix House Blend

Funkier than James Brown this Ugandan is one for those who love a filter coffee whether that be a cafetiere, pour over or Twist Press. This is not your traditional coffee and is one for the true coffee lover. We feel it works best without milk so you can enjoy all the complex flavours. Sweetness from cacao nib and honey with acidity from the pineapple and mango.

This coffee is produced by farms in the south west of Uganda, along the border with Democratic Republic of Congo, on farms in the Rwenzori Mountains. Some of the peaks of these mountains are permanently ice-capped, and feed water to tributaries which lead to the Nile River. 'Rwenjura' means 'water hill', or 'bringer of water'.
 
Here, our local exporter works with family farmers, many of whom have been producing coffee for generations, to produce very high quality export coffee, with a particular focus on selective picking and careful drying. The result is a Ugandan coffee that can compete on level terms with more celebrated neighbours, Kenya and Rwanda.

Colombia is synonymous with superb coffee and this Colombian single origin does not break rank. It offers a caramel sweetness with the nutty hazelnut undertone and a mellow acidity. We roast this one to a medium level and have found it to take to all brewing methods very well. Sit back and enjoy with some chilled summer vibes.

Geisha (or Gesha) coffee can cost up to £80 per cup. This Peruvian Geisha is similar to Panama Geisha at a fraction of the cost. Geisha is one of the rarest coffee varietals in the world due to the fact that it requires unique cultivating conditions to grow. This combined with the exceptional flowery and fruit like flavour means that demand far outstrips supply, leading to the hefty price tag. It has become the coffee of choice for baristas and has now been the winning coffee in various World Barista Championships.

Geisha has its' origins in Gori Gesha forest in Ethiopia and its' name has nothing to do with Japanese women entertainers although due to mixed communications over the years it has now taken that name. From Ethiopia it was taken to Costa Rica in the 1950's and shortly after this it made its' way to Panama where it has gained a thoroughbred reputation.

This natural Geisha comes from producer Victor Human Cusi who worked with tropical agriculture academics to improve the processing of his natural coffees. This involved ensuring uniform ripeness and checking each cherry for defects. The result was a exceptional high-scoring coffee (88 points).  

As well as the floral notes of this coffee we also got hints of lemongrass, sweetness and great complexity. We are very pleased to offer such a beautiful coffee for our July 21 monthly guest.

A bittersweet symphony of funky fruit that is typical of good Catimor coffee and makes a stunning filter but not for the faint hearted, made for the adventurous. Dare you?

Peru has been an underdog in the world of coffee for many years predominantly due to the remote coffee growing regions and the lack of infrastructure to reach them. After a 14 hour bus journey from the capital we reach Satipo and the small farm of Carlos and Catalina. The family farm is nestled in the Central Highlands next to the Amazonian rainforest and is unique in that they do almost all aspects of the coffee production themselves. Unlike many coffee farms they have their own small wash station and solar dryer set-up which keeps the coffee at the optimum temperature for drying while keeping the direct sunlight off the beans.

Catimor is a varietal that has been adopted widely in Peru as it is not as prone to coffee rust as other varietals such as Bourbon or Typica. The challenging part is making good Catimor is hard but Carlos and Catalina have nailed it, we salute you!

Java and coffee go hand in hand and the Indonesia island has been growing coffee since it was introduced by the Dutch in 1696. Unfortunately the first seedings on the island were destroyed in flooding but they did not give up and by the early 1700's Java was sending their coffee to Europe on the Dutch East India ships where it became very popular and the word 'Java' became synonymous with coffee.

One of the defining characteristics of Indonesia coffee is the earthy and citrus flavours that come from the wet hulling process. This process is used due to the humid environment that is prone to heavy rain showers during the harvest season which makes drying the coffee very difficult. With wet hulling the inner seed is removed from its' parchment layer at a higher humidity level (around 20% rather than the typical 13%) which reduces the required drying time. This means that the smaller farms without large drying infrastructure are still able to produce excellent coffee. This is the coffee that we buy.

This is a deep and luxurious coffee that as well as having the classic earthy tones also powers through with a bracing citrus hit. Great for those who like it deep down and dark.
