The Story

Pachamama is a Quechuan and Aymaran word from the indigenous communities in Bolivia that translates to "Earth Mother". We're extremely excited to bring you this new flagship blend, a nod to Alpaca Coffee's origin story, and a celebration of the beautiful planet we live on.

A blend comprised of two beans: our Brazilian São Luiz and Peruvian Gonzilla. 

The São Luiz Estate is a coffee farm in the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil, that's both steeped in history, and embraces modernity; with centuries-old agricultural tradition, and more than five decades in the coffee industry. 

The Gonzilla Estate in Peru is situated in the Andes mountain range, between 1,100 and 1,800 metres above sea level. The cool climate at this altitude means that the coffee fruit matures much more slowly, allowing the flavours to develop inside the bean.

Alpaca Coffee

The São Luiz Estate is a coffee farm that's both steeped in history and embraces modernity, with centuries-old agricultural tradition, and more than five decades in the coffee industry.

Manoel Velloso dos Reis, a visionary, took over his father's land and imagined the potential for a new opportunity: producing coffee in the 1960s. Later, his son Fausto do Espírito Santo Velloso began investing in quality coffee. Now the team at the São Luiz Estate is blazing a trail in the young Brazilian coffee-producing region, Cerrado Mineiro. 

Currently, Fausto's daughter, Ana Cecília Velloso is managing the farm. She started her career in coffee in 2014, with coffee farming embedded in her DNA. Her grandfather is one of the pioneers of coffee farming in the Cerrado Mineiro region, planting coffee in the late 1970s in Carmo do Paranaíba. Ana Cecília, in addition to being a producer, is responsible for selling the family's specialty coffees.

Brazil Sao Luiz

Arnulfo Leguizamo, the son of a coffee farmer, began his own coffee farming journey some 20 years ago. From the beginning, he's been committed to producing the best coffee possible while remaining environmentally responsible.

At Finca Primavera, Arnulfo and his family are dedicated to protecting water sources and natural wildlife and habitats. His plan to steward his land without contamination fuels his practice of using non-chemical fertilizers on his coffee plants.

In 2011, Finca Primavera won first prize at the Cup of Excellence. A member of Associacion Los Naranjos, a 40-family cooperative in the famed Huila Department of Southwestern Colombia, Arnulfo says:

“I have to do things with love, dedication, and with the support of my wife and my children.”

The Finca La Laja farm in Mexico is a three-generation family coffee farm owned by Hermilo Sampieri, close to the village of Huatusco in the state of Veracruz. The farm began in 1920 when Hermilo bought his first coffee plot in Huatusco. Eventually, his son, also named Hermilo Sampieri, joined the business and took charge of milling and exports.

Over the years, the family farms grew to four farms in Veracruz, including Finca La Laja. The name "La Laja" is derived from the name of a stone common in the region of Huatusco. Today, the farm is certified for its sustainable production with RFA and 4C.

Using water from the glaciers of the highest mountain in Mexico, this coffee is immersed in order to extract its caffeine content, allowing the green beans to maintain their flavour, a method called Mountain Water Process. As the water passes through a filter, the water can then be re-used. Truly a coffee that you wouldn't believe is decaf.

The Story

The port of Santos is located within the city of Santos in the state of São Paulo. Around 40% of the world's coffee is produced in Brazil and exported through the port. Since the 19th Century, Brazil Santos has been a blend of coffees from the region of Minas Gerais and the Alto Mogiana region. Each brings body, sweetness and acidity to the blend.

The coffee beans are individually hand-picked and dry processed, which involves removing the beans from the cherries once dried. This method also known as natural processing, allows the sweetness of the fruit to carry through to the cup.

Brazil Santos

The Cooperativa Agraria de Servicios Multiples El Milagro is made up of 177 smallholder organic coffee producers in northern Peru. This small but growing cooperative is mostly comprised of farms that are only 3 hectares in size. By directly selling their coffee to buyers, they are working towards improving the livelihoods of their farmers through achieving fairer prices.

Located in the Cajamarca region of Northern Peru, this region extends north to the Ecuadorian border. Described as a privileged climate, the area boasts a wooded mountainous landscape, with many natural resources. The town of San Jose de Lourdes is accessible only by cable car or raft, which makes it logistically difficult.

Despite the difficult location, they have an office and cupping lab, and have recently invested in enclosed drying structures. This has allowed members to improve their drying techniques and subsequently increase cup quality as well.  Since 2015, the cooperative has also begun a micro-lot program.
