We've had so many good coffees from Brazil this year and we're excited to be releasing the last of the crop to our Trust range. Paulo Lourenco is a new producer for us based just south of Minas, a region we know well. He's been working hard to sell more of his coffee on the specialty market and this lot was worthy of the quality premiums we always pay for high-quality Brazilian coffee. In his first year, he planted 1,000 trees, now he has over 15,000 and considers coffee his main source of income.
You'll love this if you like full-bodied, rich coffee that cuts through milk. It's packed full of flavours we know and love: toasted hazelnuts and chocolate praline - it's moreish to say the least.

Colombian coffee is among the most recognisable and dynamic in the world, with multiple growing regions whose distinct yet consistently crowd-pleasing profiles reflect the various microclimates that exist in this large country.

The 'Gran Galope' is a combination lot from approximately 30 smallholder farms, each with comparable cup characteristics and score. This coffee is part of a sourcing model called 'stratified buying', which allows for the entire harvest to be purchased, rather than just a small percentage of the highest-scoring lots. This is a key part of true sustainability.

Gran Galope

This is the second single varietal micro-lot that we have bought from Finca Bethania. This is the naturally processed lot - if you're game for the full taste experience then we highly recommend buying this alongside the honey version. Same farm, same varietal, different processing method. 

All of the coffees we tasted at the Cafetos micro mill (which processes for other local farms as well as their own) were high quality and there were lots of micro lots available, but it felt natural to buy something from Bethania itself. The farm belonged to Martha and Ana's Farther before the political strife forced his family to leave the country. In 2007 the sisters returned to run the farm themselves - they’ve been improving quality every year since then.

Maracatura is a hybrid varietal with praised cup characteristics and high yields, given the quality. This makes it an ideal choice for growers who want to improve quality without risking their crops.

This is the first coffee in our spotlight series and it hails from a small municipality called Las Brisas, in the well known growing region of Tolima, Colombia. 7 producers have contributed to this outstanding lot. We know the gate price (the price the farmer receives) was 27.5% higher than the market price and the cup quality is excellent. Expect a very sweet, slightly citric character, with deep notes of orange, cocoa, and peach. 

This coffee was shipped under sail power from the port of Santa Marta, Colombia and unloaded within a few miles of our roastery in Falmouth - reducing transit emissions by thousands of kgs of CO2e. To make this possible, we partnered with New Dawn Traders and The Blue Schooner company, who sailed over 7,500 nautical miles with a carbon footprint that is close to zero - a radical model of trade, which puts people and planet first.

Traceable down to the farm, organically grown and single varietal. Not only that, but the varietal is Mundo Novo, a natural hybrid first found in Brazil and to our knowledge, never grown in Ethiopia.

Israel has an incredible reputation for the coffee he produces and the social and educational projects he runs within the community. Recently, he has been working with Kamba importers to experiment with processing techniques, machinery and growing new coffee varietals. 

Back in 2018 he travelled to Brazil and was gifted 2kg of Mundo Novo seeds on his travels. This coffee is the first batch he's exported from growing these seeds. It's quite incredible... to say the least. We've never tasted Mundo Novo like this - showing us just how much terroir makes a difference. 

Debeka Farm

We're super excited to launch our coffee collaboration with Jubilee Pool, ahead of it's reopening this summer and new geothermal heated spa this coming autumn.

Jubilee Pool is an art deco seawater lido in Penzance. A central feature of the Penzance community for over 50 years, operating as a communal social enterprise whereby all profits are used to offset the pool’s future operation for the communities benefit. The lido is also home to a beautiful cafe - we are their proud supplier of coffee.

We've teamed up to create a bag of coffee together, whereby we're donating 50p from every bag sold back to the Jubilee Pool foundation. Through buying this coffee, you're supporting the upkeep of this special place for generations to come.

Our relationship with this group of family-focused, small scale farmers is what we're most proud of.  Now into our 5th year of Buying direct, we can confidently say the model is working. This year the coffees are exceptional and the farmers were beyond excited to show us their produce. 

Buying direct means we have full transparency of costs and know everyone is happy and well rewarded. It's as simple as that. We hope our work with the group will continue to help them stand out to the world and be known as producers capable of coffees that can take your breath away. This one certainly is.   

The natural processing and low acidity of this coffee means you get lots of punch and sweetness in the espresso. It works really well in all milk-based drinks including dairy-free. If you like easy-drinking, chocolatey coffees then this one is for you.

Long gone are the days of subpar decaf. This one's so good we don't think you'd know it was decaffeinated if it wasn't on the label. Taste wise, expect a well-rounded coffee with good sweetness and a sort of Horlicks character that makes that 'after dinner coffee' oh so dreamy.

This decaf is from Cauca, Colombia. It's decaffeinated using alcohol produced locally and derived from sugar cane, this is our favourite way of decaffeination.

Masenga Hill

This is the final release from this year's bumper Peruvian crop. Once again it is a show stopper. It's easy to love this coffee - it's fruity and refined, silky and sweet - plus, it's really pleasing to brew because it smells so good when you grind it!

Carmen Carrasco owns 3ha of land in San Pedro, Tabaconas district, Peru. Its a small farm and a family affair. In fact, Carmen's mother lives at the farm and still coordinates the farm work. This lot is 100% caturra and has a cupping score of 87.5 - meaning the premium is good and the taste is even better. Interestingly, the caturra trees are from an old plot on the farm, which is why the beans show the characteristic small, round form, common in old caturras in Northern Peru.

This direct relationship between importer and producer is rare in Peru. It serves as a great example of how 'speciality' coffee and lot separation can improve the supply chain and increase value. Plus, the traceability means we know where the premium ends up.

Welcome back Kuli Gap! This coffee was a stand out last year so we’re proper excited to have it back in the roastery. It’s packed full of flavour, delivering espresso that tastes like tropical juice fermented in whiskey barrels. Too weird? We don’t think so, it’s delicious.!

The western highlands province is centrally located in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. It’s volcanic soils make the ground highly fertile, but high value specialty coffee is still a new concept in the region.  

The owner and operator of Grass Roots mill is Paul Pora. He has a degree in agriculture and a clear goal to improve the quality of the coffee from the farmers he works with. He’s going back to basics, with a push on ripe cherry-picking and proper storage for processed coffee. They even keep dry milled coffee in the highlands until shipment, because it’s less humid and preserves quality.  

Grass Roots // Papua New Guinea

A truly stunning coffee that we look forward to tasting all year! This is a light, silky coffee with vibrant acidity that gets those tropical juices flowing. For our money, this is one of the best examples of washed Ethiopian coffee out there. Get your brewer out - it’s party time.

The Sasaba smallholders are a mix of Gedeo and Guji farmers, many of whom have lived here for generations growing coffee next to each other. Like most coffee from this region, it’s predominantly organic, due to lack of supply and cost of fertilisation. Tsegay Hagos owns the mill and knows that it’s success is closely tied to that of the smallholders. They pay premiums for quality lots (like this one), provide training, support and loans during the lean months of rainy season. This will be our third year of buying coffee from this mill and we don’t see that stopping any time soon.

Sasaba

A desert island coffee from a producer group that's setting a new standard in sustainable farming, equality and social mobility. This is the first time we've bought from the group but we're already planning our first trip. The perfect coffee for any type of brew, any time of day. 


Producers: Women producers of ASPROCDEGUA

Variety: Catuai, Typica, Caturra, Bourbon

There are 664 contributing members, 394 of whom have organic certification. The members own small farms, an average of 2 hectares each, on which they plant coffee as well as other crops for diversification. This particular coffee has been separated from the main offering because all of the contributors are part of the women's association within ASPROCDEGUA.

This association is not a formal sub-co-op, but the premium earned for their lots goes toward organic fertilizer distribution to the women farmers, among other benefits. Last year the premium was used to purchase dairy cows for the women, which were distributed to both augment the household nutrition and to give them better access to organic matter from which to make their own organic compost. Yes.

Women Producers of Asprocdegua

The Geisha varietal is the most highly prized and distinctive in profile, but until now, for us at least, finding the right one has been elusive. Often over priced and sold by name rather than quality, we were pretty excited to finally cup a Geisha that lived up to the hype! Thank you Don Javier!

You can expect violet perfume up front, followed by a tropical acidity that's clean, silky and elegant. All the components should be balanced and very clean - somewhat delicate but multi-layered. Let it cool a little before drinking to allow the complexity to shine. We're roasting this Geisha very light, so we wouldn't recommend adding milk - although of course, this is entirely your choice. 

Finca Bella Vista is a 4 generation farm, now run by Don Javier, who has become increasingly dedicated to his Geisha micro-lots. He has done a fantastic job with this one. It goes through a 24 house 'cherry on' fermentation, then a 24 hour 'cherry off' fermentation, before slow drying in marquesinas.

We’re honoured to be roasting this outstanding coffee, from a steward of the land and fantastic producer; Tesfaye Bekele. He really is one of the people who put Guji coffee on the map. Plus, it’s exceptionally tasty - one of our all time faves.

Tesfaye Bekele started Suke Quto after bushfires destroyed most of the native forest in the area. He wanted to find a crop that would provide income for the community, but also help reestablish the natural environment after the forest was lost. He pitched his idea to the locals and distributed coffee seedlings, inspiring many of the Guji coffee growers today. His farm is a semi-forest farm, where a combination of native and shade trees provide cover for the coffee plants. For fertilization, Tesfaye allows the natural mulch from fallen leaves and clippings from weeding around the coffee trees to add nutrients back to the soil - it is both Organic and Rainforest Alliance certified.

This year we bought two coffees from the same farm, - Agua Sarca - that have different fermentation times of the same process. Available to buy seperately, and as a bundle. Try both to see how the flavour of the coffee changes over time.

Super sweet and boozy; this coffee has been hand picked and processed in tanks for 348 hours. The result is this amazingly decadent profile, brimming with rum and raisins.

Perched high in the mountains near the Honduran border, Finca El Recuerdo is a lush, jungle covered gem. Careful growing and meticulous hand-picking for ripeness give way to this balanced and sweet coffee. We absolutely love it, and we hope you do too.

Every once in a while, we come across a very special coffee that we have to share with you. On our trip to Mexico earlier this year, we fell in love with this incredible single farm lot from Hector Hernandez.
