Coffees from the local community are processed in a small-mill community based wet-mill where exceptional care is take to sorting coffee cherries by quality and ensuring precise scientific method is employed in the drying phase. 

The result is a delicious smooth milk chocolate taste profile with undertones of ripe stone fruits that are reminiscent of fresh nectarines and apricots.

We recommend enjoying it as an espresso, or moka-pot but it is equally nice, and has caramel taste notes when blended with milk.

Volcano Coffee Works

The Aquiares farm was founded in 1890 but its status as pioneers of sustainability really began to accelerate when Diego Robelo’s father,Alfonso, took over operations in the 1990’s. Alfonso saw that workers struggled for security without their own homes and responded by building homes for nearly 200 workers to own and live in. This was just the first of many sustainability oriented innovations.

These days the farm is run by Alfonso’s son Diego who has continued to challenge the status quo and seek to constantly improve. The farm has become renowned throughout central American coffee farming as trailblazers and early adopters for everything from experimental new varietals (such as the F1 Hybrid featured this month) to moving to complete carbon neutrality in its operations. Diego also shares portions of the farm with environmental scientists for world leading research into developing new agroecological practices.

The Mount Blend is one of our most popular thanks to its low-acidity, subtle sweetness and the way it captures the rich flavours of South American coffee. You’ll taste silky milk chocolate, rich caramel and sweet red grapes from beans we sourced all over the region.

It’s grown by a selection of specialist, mostly family-run farmers in Brazil, El Salvador and Peru and roasted in small batches in Brixton to preserve the signature flavour.

Region: Cordillera Del Balsamo 

Our single-origin El Salvador coffee tastes fresh and bright with flavours like ripe peaches and baked green apples. There are nutty notes too, and a lingering taste of sweet, rich dates.

This unique flavour is achieved on Aldo Parducci’s family-run farm, where shade-grown coffee is hand-picked over 80 hectares. Las Brumas lies in the mountainous Cordillera Del Balsamo region, and Aldo’s goal is to maintain his sustainable and eco-friendly business so that it can be inherited by his children.

These washed mixed heirloom coffee beans are from plants around the tiny village of Tirtira Goyo (in the Guji region of Ethiopia), and were produced by Gemede Dekama. The Guji region's rich and fertile red soils are perfect conditions for coffee plants, which thrive on the highland slopes.

We love this single-origin Guatemalan coffee, it's smooth textured and sweet like milk chocolate, accented by bright green apples and fresh gooseberries.

José Bernabé Martínez bought his farm Finca Marilandia in 1981, and has worked closely with local expert agronomists to refine his processing techniques. His attention to detail pays off with this beautiful and consistent coffee.

This blend tastes rich and sweet like chocolate orange, complimented by cinnamon spice and fruity berries. It's perfectly sweet when drunk black, and really comes to life when you add milk.

The best thing about our Balance blend is how it make a perfect cup at any time of the day. Adding a touch of milk really brings out the notes of sweet honeycomb and silky chocolate, but it tastes great black too.

This coffee is grown by farmers in Brazil’s Minasul cooperative who we’ve been working with since 2016. The cooperative brings together producers from across four regions, the network boosts social inclusion, education and conservation. This blend supports discounted university fees for farmers’ families, in partnership with Unit Group. 

Balanced All Day Coffee Beans

Derived from Amharic language, Biftu Gudina means "ray of development." The cooperative was established in 2012, and is located in the Agaro - Goma woreda (district) within the Jimma zone. There are about 150 smallholders in total. Located near Jimma town, the co-op benefits from high altitude and rich fertile soils.

Since Biftu Gudina was established it has become famous in specialty coffee circles thanks to its incredibly complex and luscious flavour and consequently it now commands prices that farmers could only have dreamt of in the past - as much as four times more.

Always one of the most eagerly anticipated arrivals of the season, the Biftu Gudina is as delicious as ever. In the cup, expect intense jasmine, notes of gooseberry, lime and a blackcurrant sweetness.Simply put: A classic.

This vibrant blend is grown by farmers in Colombia’s Risaralda region. They’re able to share know-how, enjoy a sustainable income and have full control over the quality of their beans thanks to a strong infrastructure supported by Red Associations. 

Bold Morning Shot Coffee Beans

You can really taste the nutty praline flavour, sweet muscavado and cacao notes in our Decaf coffee. We use a chemical-free CO2 process to strip the caffeine out of this coffee while preserving its well-rounded flavour.

This blend is grown by ACPC Pichanaki Cooperative’s network of farmers in Peru’s Chanchamayo province - each producer gets technical help, better facilities for their community and a fixed price for their beans, guaranteeing a stable income.

This Brazilian coffee comes with notes of dates and fresh lychee, over a base of honeyed nougat. 

José Filho’s father bought the Fazenda Genoveva farm over 30 years ago, located in Brazil's prominent coffee-growing region Mantiqueira De Minas. Together with his younger brother Marco, José cultivates high scoring coffee on the farm while reserving some 30% of their land for environmental conservation.

This single-origin Ethiopian coffee has a light buttery taste with notes of tangerine and lime.

About the farmer
Mustefa Abakeno is a smallholder farmer who owns 18 hectares of land near to Agaro in the Jimma area of Western Ethiopia. The farm and wet mill is located 2040 masl and is planted with various variety selections from the Jimma research centre.
Mustefa has a small disk pulper, which he uses for half of his coffee, the other half is dried as a natural. 
Due to a lack of water in the area and limited space to ferment the coffee, Mustefa ferments the coffee for a short period of time before he moves it to his drying beds, and the result is something like a light honey process.
Mustefa has recently registered as an exporter in order to start selling his coffee directly to buyers, which he is now able to do since the changes to regulation in Ethiopia. He has set up a small wet mill where he processes his farm’s and out-growers’ coffee, which he keeps separate and dries on raised beds near his house. He is processing both natural and washed coffee and all of it is dried semi-shaded.
We anticipate that Mustefa will have around 600 bags available this year, half washed and half natural.
