At Upper Left we believe darkly roasting coffee is an important part of the coffee roasting tradition and strive to create and offer the finest dark coffee possible. Our Dark Blend is roasted and blended with great care to offer outstanding sweetness and complexity. It's fruit sweetness along with a slight char finish is truly something to behold and savor, a reminder that dark roasted coffee is the beverage at it’s most fragrant and distinctive, tasting like nothing else.

It’s best not to expect any dark coffees to extract like a light roasted single origin — hyper modern brewing devices will only get you in trouble, stick to the classics for this. Brew for four minutes in a French press to experience both Dark Blend and the iconic device performing at their very best.

Welcome to our page! My name is Katherine Harris and I co-own Upper Left Roasters with my father, Jim Harris. Native to Portland, we both have a passion for the city and the products that represent it. We joined together in August of 2015 to open Upper Left Roasters with the mission to bring exceptional coffee and food to the people and the city we love.

Chris Alspach, lead roaster, aims to offer coffees that are unique to their origins and offer exceptional levels of clarity and sweetness. We offer single-origin and blend options and give priority to green not used by others in Portland. We roast to order on our Proaster 10 kilo.

Our roasting style has been described as “soft,” and we are proud to present outstanding body and sweetness across all of our offerings. Think equal parts juicy and buttery.
