Our one and only coffee from Mexico this season comes from La China. Super tasty, notes of caramelised pear end in a mouthful of lingering dark chocolate - the perfect all day, any time of day coffee.

Fruity, clean and balanced we would like to welcome La China from Mexico. Owned by Irvin Calderon, the 12-hectare farm is located in the region of Comalapa that sits on Mexico’s border with Guatemala, right above Huehuetenango. After noticing the potential in the area, our sourcing partners Ensemble approached a local cooperative El Potrerillo. For its members to access better market prices through size, the cooperative would typically consolidate small volume lots into bigger community lots without much focus on cup quality. To help them improve on this practice, Ensemble individually cupped and separated the highest quality lots of which La China was one this year. By putting forward individual speciality grade lots, Ensamble’s objective is for farmers to see the value in focusing on quality over quantity to secure higher market prices. A project in its infancy, the effects are already rippling through the community. An absolute delight, let’s hear it for La China!
