Coming from the Kiagombe Washing Station in the Kirinyaga region of Kenya, this is definitely a coffee-lover’s coffee, showcasing typicity expected from this well-adored origin through varietals SL28, SL34, Batian, and Riuru 11. As common practice in Kenya, smallholder farmers from around the region bring their ripe cherries to the washing station where they undergo an extended fermentation to intensify the sweetness before washing and soaking to maximize the clarity and clean sweetness.

Right off the bat, there is an intense blackcurrant aroma. When hot, the blackcurrant translate into the flavour, along with a cranberry jelly tartness, and a roasted plum stonefruit sweetness. As it cools, the malic acidity becomes more apparent, along with a citric blood orange acidity. The blackcurrant becomes Ribena (blackcurrent juice concentrate), along with a foresty herbal note like black sage, and lemongrass in the finish. 

This coffee is truly special not just because it is our first ever Kenyan coffee, but for its flavour intensity, ripe acidity, and explosive sweetness.
