The concept of best is completely subjective and constantly a moving target, so I’ll avoid that trap but what I will say is this is one of the most unique, engaging, and interesting coffees I’ve ever had!  As a part of the Delagua Coffee Paradise community Jorge harvests and processes his coffees into specific lots and in order to access those lots, you must commit to buying the whole thing.  All of that is to say, not only is this an extremely unique and incredible coffee, but it is also truly one of a kind and we are the only ones in the world with it! 

Now some info Jorge and his beautiful coffees!  Jorge and his wife Jenifer may only 28 years old but already their passion and commitment to creating incredible coffees is beyond his years.  Their farm, Los Chivos, is located at 1,250 m.a.s.l in La Paz village in the municipality of Cienaga with 2,5 hectares of coffee plants.  They only produce natural and honey processed coffees and he says that he feels connected with nature by protecting his terrestrial fauna and flora and are committed to the purpose of rewriting agricultural practices for the better (see below about impact of Delagua).   

For Delagua coffee and its members, their purpose is to contribute to water conservation in coffee while at the same time elevating cup profiles.  They do this through only producing natural and honey processed micro-lot coffees in a community-based model.  Delagua consists of 68 member producers across 16 villages and are committed to pushing the envelope of water conservation in coffee processing.  By using only natural and honey processing methods they aim to reduce water usage by a whopping 880,294 L/year!

Between impeccable cup quality, a direct single producer buying model, and huge environmental gains this coffee is a win in just about every direction!

Open Seas Coffee Roasters is a small batch micro-roastery focusing on high quality, ethically sourced coffee. We roast small batches using artisanal roaster to ensure every batch gets the attention it deserves. By the time our coffee gets to us, it has undergone a tremendous degree of care to ensure its integrity. Now it’s our job to bring it on home and roast in such a way that the uniqueness and flavor is maximized in every bean and in your cup.

This may sound a bit eccentric, and it probably is, but this business started sitting on a friend’s porch in a rural farming community in South East Asia. Their whole family are coffee farmers and take pride in their coffee. I saw how much effort they put into their coffee but received very little return for those efforts in the local market. That is why we are developing partnerships with farmers and suppliers, facilitating relationships that empower and improve the lives of the growers. Above that, we have developed the 10-4Farmers Initiative.

This is no marketing gimmick. For every 12oz bag of Open Seas coffee you drink we are actually giving an average of 210 L of clean drinking water to real villagers in one of our source countries. That is over 35 days worth of potable water per bag. Through our 10-4Farmers Initiative we are investing 10% of our gross profits into sustainable water filtration systems for coffee farming communities and surrounding areas.
