The meaning of the name Sidney Grünewald has everything to do with his life story. In the German region of Pomerania, where the Sidney family comes from, Grünewald means “green forest”, which is a striking feature of his estate in Alto Barra Encoberta, 27 km from the city of Itarana. After years devoted to excavations, Sidney joined a special coffee culture from unforeseen circumstances. His father, Laudelino Grünewald, died in February 2015 at the age of 58, leaving the management to two children.

“It radically changed my life,” says Sidney, the eldest son. "We always grew vegetables and fruits and we didn't have much to do with coffee, because my father was always responsible for growing them." Sidney attributes the superior taste of her coffee to the beans, which are depulped and dried on the covered terrace the same day. His search for quality has brought recognition in the form of two awards: 3rd place in the Coopeavi competition and as one of the 13 finalists for the Pio Corteletti Arabica Award, both in 2016.

Sidney and his brother Siderly are the fourth generation of coffee growers in their family and are involved in the management of the farms left to them by their father, with a total area of ​​21 acres and five and a half planted with coffee. Sidney will leave the property to his son Luiz Otavio to continue the estate.
