Finca Las Piedras is located near the town of La Argentina within the Huila department of Southern Colombia. Here producer Rodrigo Perafan grows Caturra, Colombia, Geisha and a sprinkling of other varieties amongst native shade trees. The small scale of his farm does not make it viable to harvest and separate these varieties. Instead the more classic Caturra and Colombia adds a worthwhile heft and texture to the brightness and floral characteristics of Geisha. His processing style is also a unique variation on the standard washed process with cherries first allowed an anaerobic fermentation prior to being pulped and washed. Due to the challenging humidity in Huila coffee is slowly dried on raised beds for up to a month before delivery to Cedro Alto for export preparation. 

Up until now, Don Rodrigo has sought to mitigate some of the economic uncertainty and time consuming nature of specialty coffee production by selling more than half his crop as a lower priced commercial grade. Having tested his processing and partnership with Cedro Alto he now feels comfortable scaling up this production to almost 100% specialty. In an effort to promote the long term viability of specialty coffee production Cedro Alto and their import partners are promoting a unique degree of financial transparency. Illustrating the costs of production at various stages of the supply chain this highlights the value and security responsible partners can provide farmers as an alternative to the volatile open commodity market.

We supply our small flagship café on Hackney’s Broadway Market, our own stall on market day, as well as a growing list of establishments who have chosen to work with us. Established in 2005, our cafe is considered one of the pioneering venues for London’s now-famous coffee revolution.
